A Brief History of South Coastal Bank

Established in 1868 in the eastern section of the town of Abington, Massachusetts, this bank began its life under the name East Abington Savings Bank. With the incorporation of the Town of Rockland in 1874, the bank changed its name to Rockland Savings Bank, and was known as such until September, 2000, when the name was changed to South Coastal Bank. This most recent name change was made to better reflect our growing commitment to Massachusetts' south shore communities.

Since 1999 the bank has more than tripled in asset size from $75 million to over $270 million, added an experienced commercial lending and residential mortgage lending team, developed and relocated to a full service branch in Quincy, and introduced approximately two dozen new products and services.

With a long history of community involvement, South Coastal Bank today provides financial support to dozens of charitable organizations in the area. Our employees share this commitment and give generously of their time, volunteering hundreds of hours to help those less fortunate.

Our Mission Statement

Seeking to preserve the basic principles that have guided the Bank since 1868, South Coastal Bank maintains a strong commitment to serve our customers, nurture our employees, and be a good citizen to the communities in which we operate.
